You can help - Four Ways to Support our Parish

We would like to thank all our parishioners for continuing to support us during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Those difficult circumstances showed just how important the offertory is to the life of our parishes.  The reality is that our parishes rely on the support of their parishioners to operate – parish salaries, programs and ongoing operating costs (heating, water, electricity, etc.) are funded through the generosity of its parishioners.  It was a challenge for the parish to maintain operations without the weekly offertory collection.

Now that we are celebrating Mass regularly again, you may wish to contribute through the weekly offertory collection.  However, you can also support our parish in one of four ways:

1. You may drop off or mail your donation to 59 Heather Rd, Scarborough ON M1S 2E2.  We have a secure mailbox installed inside the glass doors, so there is no need to ring the bell.  Just drop off your donations in the locked mailbox.

2. You can donate by credit card from the Archdiocese of Toronto.

3. The archdiocese is also making pre-authorized giving (PAG) available.  Please read the PAG brochure for all the details.  You can print the Pre-authorized giving form here.

4. You can contribute through online banking.  To do this, the archdiocese needs to send you your unique account number. Please e-mail us at campaign@archtoronto.org. In the body of the email provide us with your name, address, parish name and municipality. We will email you your account information which you can use to set up the Archdiocese of Toronto as a payee in your on-line banking. Your gift will be forwarded to your parish. You can make a one time or recurring gift to your offertory.  If it is going to be different amounts each month, or to different accounts for the parish like regular offertory or the building fund, then you must tell the diocese.

BEQUESTS TO PARISHES:

The Archdiocese of Toronto was incorporated in 1845 by an Act of Parliament as a corporation sole, a legal entity consisting of a single ("sole") incorporated office. As a consequence, individual parishes do not exist as separate legal entities, but as constituted parts of the archdiocese. Thus, Releases and other legally binding estate documents can
only be signed by an individual with the authority to bind the archdiocese.  These individuals include: the Archbishop of Toronto, both Chancellors, and the Controller. Due to the corporate structure of the archdiocese, a pastor does not have the authority to sign legally binding estate-related documents for a parish under his care.

Whenever your parish becomes the beneficiary of a bequest, it always gets 100 per cent of its entitlement, however the Development Office administers the process of implementing the binding/signing authority principle. Any estate documents received by your parish will be forwarded to the Development Office either by mail to: 1155 Yonge St.,
Toronto, ON M4T 1W2 or by email to development@archtoronto.org.

THE CORRECT LEGAL NAME OF THE PARISH IS: Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation for the Diocese of Toronto, in Canada for the benefit of St. Bartholomew Parish, 59 Heather
Rd., Toronto, ON M1V 5C5

PLEASE NOTE:

All donations and/or gifts in cash and kind cannot be refunded/returned as per CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and the policy of the Archdiocese of Toronto. Once the item has been given, it is already the property of the parish.

As per the CRA guideline: “A registered charity cannot return a donor's gift. At law, a gift transfers ownership of the money or other gifted property from the donor to the charity. Once the transfer is made, the charity is obliged to use the gift in carrying out its charitable purposes.”

In addition the parish will also not lend/loan any property of the parish to any individual/parishioner.

THANK YOU!

We would like to sincerely thank you for your support and we welcome everyone back to the St. Bartholomew parish family.
